(Cave of the Mounds)
Last night on our drive down a very lively street the boy hit upon a classic blooming reader pastime. Demanding we read
everything he spelled. “What does h-o-t-e-l spell?”
“Hotel.”
“What does t-a-c-o spell?”
“Taco.”
“What does b-a-n-k spell?”
The questions came out almost before we could answer them and he started to spell things so far [...]

Yesterday I was surprised to see this article on the front page of my news. Not surprised to learn that 10-year-olds are acting like 15-years-olds used to a generation or two ago. Just surprised that it was considered newsworthy and hadn’t been discussed already by everyone on earth. I read the article and was stuck [...]

For Unschooling Voices, I created a retrospective of interesting things we’ve done this year. The material included below in no way constitutes all of the interesting things, projects and activities we’ve done. They only show some of the ones that involved me having my camera handy. Enjoy and hope you get a chance to mentally [...]

(Go on kid. Tell them how fun Chicago Toy and Game convention was this weekend or your mother is toast. What? Oh, oh yes, Darth did spruce up the Death Star since you’ve last been here. Nice, eh?)
For some reason, which I’ll explain later if anything ever comes of it, there was a photographer at a [...]

There’s a whole big stir up about the new Dr. Phil show on the Great School Debate going on all over the internets. I guess the good doc is going to bash the whole idea of unschooling, but then give it some consideration as an option, from what I’ve read. I have always been slightly [...]

We went to see a movie this weekend. My take on Happy Feet is best expressed by this venn diagram Ken whipped up for us. I suppose if you wanted to be technical you could make a more complex diagram which also included penguin enthusiasts and oldies music fans.
Of course, my son loved it and [...]

(I guess I’m a little late for this, but I’ll try nonetheless. Thanks Heidi, for starting my google search of curiosity.)
I was taking a shower this morning and I had a lot to post about. With the onslaught of sudden dryness and the availability of keyboards and pens, all thoughts are gone. Typical. So I [...]

Can I just bitch a minute about NaNoWriMo? I’ll preface that with the fact that this entire post is probably just based on jealousy. I don’t have it in me, a novel in a month. Anyways, what I am trying to say is I hate when nano time arises every year, because blogs that [...]

I’m not sure if you realize this, but apparently having a big sister with her own holiday when you have none will not suffice. That is why at this juncture in time, I am happy to announce yet another holiday, this one called “Move Day” which will take place on December 2nd. The son thought [...]
