Baby Kong Review

Recently I received a review copy of a very rare thing. It was an illustrated children’s fiction book featuring homeschooled kids. Apparently, the author Scott Stroud’s kids had noticed (as have mine) that nearly all books on the market nowadays involve kids in school settings doing school-like things. So he set out to write a book that reflected a homier experience.
Baby Kong is a book geared towards the younger homeschooling crowd, although my 10-year-old got a kick out of reading it to her brother. Perhaps she recalled the days when he was still a baby kong bent on dismantling the house and accidentally disrupting any efforts of his siblings to get anything done. That is what unfolds in this engaging read, and any parent with more than one child to homeschool will be relieved to note that they are not alone in trying to keep the baby happy while working with the bigger kids.

Baby Kong does have a school-at-home approach and also some religious references in the introduction which may not fly with secular homeschoolers or unschoolers, but overall I’d say, regardless of your methods or beliefs, this is a great book to have on hand to show your kids that there are books about kids who don’t go to school!

If you are interested in purchasing the book, visit their Homescoolkids website. The author assures me there are more homeschooling-themed books for children coming soon and that can only be a good thing.

Thank you for sharing this book. I’ll have to go and check it out. Btw… from the picture and the description, it looks just like my younger son.
