What is summer I ask you, without felted soap?

July 17th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I’ve been seeing these felted soap bars at all of the area’s finest farmer’s markets going for quite a steep price. Then it occurred to me, I have more wool roving than a sheep farmer and a linen closet full of soaps.

What does that spell?! F-E-L-T! Who likes to get wet and messy (and ironically also clean)? We do!

What is the point of this craft?! We dunno! But I think it has something to do with how pretty it looks and how you might not need a washcloth to lather up the soap if you have a bar wrapped in wool. Mostly, it is fun. Complete and thorough directions here.

First, gather ye the ingredients. Excuse the lack of fancy handmade soaps, but we had a surplus of store brand.

Then wrap,

then drip warm water on it,

They look slightly like wet dogs here…

The fun part

Rinse

Found some round soap.

Dry and voila! We’ll need to experiment with layering a bit to get the right look.  Anoif seemed to have the knack more than I do.

Oh that looks like fun! We seem to have terrible luck doing anything with wool. Seriously, I shouldn’t be allowed near it. Now I’m all tempted to try it again.

Well, summer was always summer without felted soap. But then I had no idea what it was until you showed me here. Absolutely *gorgeous* Very cool. Might have to try this one on my vacation.
